Direct Answer- NO
It is a well known fact that corona leads to severe symptoms and complications in people with less immunity. So that techincally puts children in the zone of high risk populations.
But interestingly, it has been observed that corona so far has affected less children as compared to adults. Also children tend to develop less severe symptoms and complications.
With increasing number of data accumulating from all round the world, it has been observed that corona has affected less children so far as compared to adults. Also if we compare the number of people affected per age group it is easily evident that people below the age group of 18 are less in quantity
According to CDC reports comparing corona virus to a seasonal flu, the number of children affected and died from COVID are much lower (14) than those affected and died from seasonal flu (169 in 2019-2020).
Symptoms
Unlike adults, wherein corona mostly starts with fever or cough or cold; in children corona usually presents with complain of diarrhea and vomiting before fever, cough or cold. Manytimes it may not even present with cough or cold or fever. They may be asymptomatic.
Doctors from around the world have noticed symtoms resembling kawasaki disease in children affected with corona virus. Kawasaki disease is a type of inflammatory disease which shows as strawberry tongue appearance. Kawasaki disease usually presents in children less than 5 years of age but in case of corona virus children more than 10 year age present with signs similar to kawasaki disease.

Severity and complications
Luckily the severity in children is too low. Complications in case of corona in child occur only if he/she is already suffering from another disease (that is if he/she has an underlying co-morbidity).
If we have a look at the death rate of children affected by corona virus, it can be seen that death rate is much less than that in adults also the occurance of a complication is much less than that in adults.
In a north american study conducted to understand the death rate in children affected by corona virus, overall ICU mortality was less than 5%, compared to published mortalities of 50% to 62% in adults admitted to ICU.
Viral load/ transmission capacity
Considering the viral load and the severity in adults vs children, it has been seen that children with much less severity of disease had higher viral load in their nasopharyngeal and oral specimens as compared to adults with similar severity of disease. Meaning, children can have higher viral load (capacity to transmit infection) even if they have less/ no symptoms.
Yes, this can also be the case in adults, that an adult may not have any symptom but can be a carrier of the virus. But chances of a child being an asymptomatic carrier are much more than an adult.
Opening school means that even if they might not show symptoms but a child affected from corona virus may or may not have symptoms but will definitely act as carrier or spreader, thereby creating a threat to the family and to the society.
